NOTICE OF POSTPONEMENT

After prayerfully and carefully considering the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the measures taken by Governments Worldwide in their efforts to contained and defeat the pandemic, the Asia Evangelical Alliance Executive Council has come to a conclusion that we need to postpone the AEA GA 2020 for a later date this year.

We will continue to prayerfully review the global and Asia situation related to this pandemic, and in due time, announce the new date for the AEA GA 2020.

On behalf of the Asia Evangelical Alliance, I would like to apologize for the inconveniences caused by this decision.

If you have registered for the GA and have paid for the registration fee, we will be reaching out to you with information on how we will be processing the refunds.

Let’s join hand in prayer that the Church worldwide will raise in this challenging time, to defeat FEAR and to inspire HOPE.

Sincerely Yours,

Rev. Paul H. Ueki

NCEASL Interventions for Sri Lanka Easter Sunday Bombing Victims

Sri Lanka faced a series of devastating bombings last Easter Sunday, targeted at Christian devotees attending Easter Sunday worship services and Easter celebrations at luxury hotels. The reported death toll following these attacks currently stands over 359 people, including women and children. The attacks purportedly carried out by an Islamist terrorist group has left a hole in the fabric of society and resulted in rising tensions between communities.

As a response to the ongoing crisis, the National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL) has rallied to reach out and rebuild families and communities affected by this tragedy in whatever way we can (written statement made by NCEASL). While these heinous attacks targeted Christians, the blasts killed indiscriminately and victimised more than just the Christian community. The grief and horror of these events is felt by all Sri Lankans.

Consultation on Defending Religious Freedom: A Legal Perspective Colombo, Sri Lanka

Persecution against the church in the South Asian region has continuously increased over the past few years. According to the World Watch List for the period of 2017/2018, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are within the top 50 countries where persecution against Christians is highest.1 One of the main reasons behind this has been the rise of religious nationalism in the region. For instance, India and Nepal have witnessed the spread of the Hindutva ideology by extremist groups such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliates and Sri Lanka has seen the rise of the Buddhist nationalist ideology by groups such as the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS).
