What is Discipleship & Family Discipleship
Discipleship is: Transforming lives to live with Christ as Lord, achieved through the work of the Holy Spirit and ‘life to life transfer of beliefs, values and disciplines’
Not a one-time, single event or intervention but a life-long journey.
It is not to accumulate knowledge but to learn to obey & allow Christ’s reign.
The ultimate goal of making disciples is the kingdom of God, which is the reign of God in individual lives and its reflection in families, communities and nations.
~Adapted from:’ No Plan B’ by Dr Bambang Budijanto

Family Discipleship in Church
Intentional process of transforming the lives of every member of the church
on how to live as Christ’s disciple at home
in relationship and are intentionally making disciples. The Church is the ‘equipping center’ and supports families
to be transformed and to be a disciple-maker.
Biblical Family
God instituted the act of marriage between a man and a woman.
God’s instruction for married couples to have children, raise a godly offspring.
Godly values are to be passed on from generation to generation with active involvement of all generations in discipling one another.
Singles who have the gift of celibacy, are able to serve God in ways that married couples cannot. Singles play an important part in the life of the family.
Children are to honour their fathers and mothers.
The ‘Family’ is the community:
*Where the reality of a relationship with Jesus Christ is modeled
*The people learn to live out their convictions and grow to be Christ-like
*Where the children see manhood and womanhood modeled and, the love of God and worship lived out
*Biblical values are taught by parents and placed into the hearts of their children
It is important that the Asian Church hold on to the Biblical definition of ‘Family’ as God intended it to be. We recognize that today, the Christian family takes on many different shapes due to many different circumstances but the Biblical ideal should still be up-held.

Rev Dr Jeremiah Yap expounds on the theology of the family in God’s Kingdom plan and relates it to ‘Your Family in God’s Kingdom Plan’.
1n 1981 Jeremiah and Susan Yap founded New Life Restoration Centre (NLRC) Group of churches in Malaysia. Through efforts of their missionary and friends in the nations NLRC shares the joy of seeing churches planted in Cambodia, Indonesia, India, Russia and China; and the privilege of supporting God’s work in some other parts of South-East Asia.
Jeremiah has the understanding of the church as God’s movement for the Kingdom of heaven on earth using families. He pursued his doctoral degree on the ministry of the family and the father figure. He feels this is an important era in family discipleship in churches if the Gospel of the Kingdom is to bring about transformation of society.
Together with his wife Susan, they have three adult children Jeremy, Stephen and Eunice.

The Challenge in Every Church-Discipling Families
Watch and take to heart this clarion call on what every church and Christian family is going to face. How seriously are we taking the signs and warnings that are already apparent?
Dr. RON HUNTER JR.
Your family legacy matters. Likewise, every parent and grandparent wants to instill value in the next generation. Your church can help. Discover how D6 (Deuteronomy 6) Family Ministry principles and practices can make a difference. We will identify the common problems most churches are trying to solve, then lay a biblical foundation to map the way. And for the last half, we will share easy ways to intentionally make a difference at church and in the home.
Since 2002, Dr. Hunter has served as the Executive Director & CEO of Randall House the publisher of D6 Curriculum, cofounder and Director of the D6 Conference (a conference that meets in numerous countries each year). He regularly speaks internationally and consults for ministry and business organizations. In addition to serving in the military, he earned his MPA from the University of Colorado and his Ph.D. from Dallas Baptist University, where he teaches as an adjunct professor. He has written over 80 articles for various magazines and published five books including Toy Box Leadership, The DNA of D6, Recalibrate: A New Measure for Family Ministry and his newest one, About Me, About You: Generational Legacy Journal. BISHOP T. JEYAKUMAR

The role cannot be passed on to others however well-trained the children worker or the youth ministry worker or the pastor might be. He looks into how can the Church can encourage the daily participation of parents in the lives of their children in nurturing them spiritually, a task that is non-negotiable.
Bishop Jeya joined the pastoral ministry in the Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC) of the Methodist Church in Malaysia and in 2008, he was elected Conference Secretary and served in that capacity while carrying out his pastoral duties. In 2012, he was elected President of TRAC (2013-2016) and re-elected for a second term (2017-2020). In 2020, Bishop Jeya was elected Bishop of the Methodist Church in Malaysia for 2021-2024.

ROB RIENOW
Rob takes pastors and leaders through the theological foundations for family ministry and addresses some misconceptions about what family ministry is really all about. In this talk he goes into the patterns of ministry of the early church and how to understand the sufficiency of Scripture for this area of the home.
Rob Rienow is the founder of Visionary Family Ministries. He serves as a pastor, is an international conference speaker, and is the author of several books including Visionary Parenting, Visionary Marriage and Limited Church: Unlimited Kingdom.

Dr. RON HUNTER JR.
Deuteronomy 6 (D6) reveals God’s heartbeat for generational discipleship. What starts at church must carry over into the homes each day of the week. Explore how the people of Israel finally broke the bonds within their culture and how Asian churches can do the same. Discipleship includes reaching and teaching through an intentional partnership between the Church and Home.

Lee Wee Min
The next generation is one that depends on their peers, the internet and social media for information and knowledge; they are growing up in a culture that believes that there is no absolute truth; the line between real and ‘fake’ news is blurred and the mindset of tolerance is held in high regard. How do we parent this generation and pass down faith to our children and the children after them? Lee Wee Min shares out of his many years of experience serving in various capacities in Focus on the Family in Malaysia and his role as church elder to address this important topic.
By profession, Wee Min is a Civil Engineer. In 1995 he sold his business and started the affiliate office of Focus on the Family in Malaysia (FOFM) as the Executive Chairman. Currently, he serves as the Asia Regional Director for Focus on the Family Global and Honorary Chairman for FOFM. He speaks regularly at churches and conferences in Mongolia, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, the Middle East, Australia, and U.S.A. on issues pertaining to the family including at the United Nations in 2009 on “The Importance of Preserving Marriage and Family as Essential Foundations of Nations”. He also serves as an Elder of Petaling Jaya Gospel Hall, Malaysia and has authored 2 books: “Parenting – A Roller Coaster Experience” and “Intentional Fathering: 7 Strategies to Be More Intentional in Your Fatherhood Journey”. Q&A Time
LEAVING A LEGACY OF FAITH: DISCIPLING YOUR FAMILY A DAY AT A TIME
Cliff and Wai Jia take a couple of questions from D6Asia participants and share their insights on discipling your family.
This Commission’s primary focus for 2024-2028 will be on the ‘FAMILY’– help the local church equip every parishioner to be discipled to live transformed lives in their home and they in turn, will live as disciple-makers inside and outside the home.
We believe there is an urgent need for the church in Asia to incorporate a family centric discipleship strategy to strengthen the home (the domestic church). Many families struggle with their domestic relationships, abuse, opposing worldviews, religious persecution etc. We can work together to:
- help Christians intentionally live out their Christian faith in the home, whether as singles, married couples, parents/grandparents etc.
- see faith intentionally passed down for generations and close the ‘back door’ and not lose the next generation
Healthy families will build the church because they are missional (living out Christ’s mission) and actively reaching their community for Christ.
MEET OUR TEAM
Our team is passionately committed to work in partnership to see the church & families fully engaged in discipleship and the next generation know Jesus, walk in relationship with the Father and released to serve and minister by the power of the Holy Spirit.
